Four Gordonsville FFA Members competed in the Middle Tennessee Regional Floriculture Contest at Tennessee Tech's Hyder Burks Pavilion this past week. This was the first team to compete in this contest in many years. During this contest, the members were responsible for identifying plants and equipment used in the floral industry and preparing arrangements to match the scenarios. This team did a great job representing our chapter and school during this event. Team members included Sophie Shoemake, Jordyn Brown, Laken Roberts, and Izzy Richardson.
The team would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Morgan Hearn for her help training this team for the contest.
Thank you to Tennessee Highway Safety for the presentation to our 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Very impactful message on the impact of driving under the influence.
GHS FFA and FCCLA are collecting donations of diapers, baby wipes, and bottled water to be delivered to East Tennessee to help those affected by the flooding. We will collect through Thursday October 10th.
Due to threat of severe storms and wind for Friday, we are rescheduling the Homecoming Parade and Ceremony for October 11th. We will send out more detailed information directly to parents.
Big Shout out to the student body at GHS, over the past two weeks in their 1st block classes, the students raised $2,625 for the Make a Wish Program. Mrs. Stacy Reeves class was the top class with $392. Great job!!!!!!
On Monday, August 19th, 2024 five FFA members from the Gordonsville Chapter competed at the Tennessee State Fair in Lebanon, Tennessee. Early that morning, these students, along with FFA Advisor Mr. Rogers and GHS Administration Mr. Mac Petty had the opportunity to participate in the 9th annual Tennessee FFA State Fair Ham Breakfast. This opportunity allowed the students to hear from many state and federal government leaders with a special message from our keynote speaker. During the day, these students competed in contests against FFA chapters from around the state. Miss Laken Robers and Miss Izzy Richardson competed in the Floral Design contest. Miss Sophie Shoemake and Jordyn Brown competed in the Vet Science Contest. This year, a new auctioneering contest was held, in which Mr. Christian Silvano participated. We are proud of how they represented our school, community, and FFA chapter.
Former 2022-2023 Gordonsville High School FFA President Abby Malone has been chosen to receive the highest degree in the National FFA Organization. As the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization, the American FFA Degree shows an FFA member’s dedication to his or her chapter and state FFA association. It demonstrates the effort FFA members apply toward their supervised agricultural experience and the outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement they exhibited through their FFA career. Each year, the National FFA Organization honors FFA members who show the utmost dedication to the organization through their desire to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The American FFA Degree is bestowed upon a select group of students in recognition of their years of academic and professional excellence. To be eligible, FFA members must have earned at least $10,000 or earned at least $2,000 and worked at least 2,250 hrs. outside of class time through a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program in which they own their own business, hold a professional position as an employee, or conduct research. Recipients must also complete 50 hours of community service and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and civic involvement through the completion of a long list of FFA and community activities. Less than one percent of FFA members achieve the American FFA Degree. We congratulate Abby on this tremendous accomplishment!

September 10th at 9:25, the Smith County Election Commission will be at school to register students who are 18 to vote.

Middle School Football game for August 2, start time has been moved back to a 7:00 start time due to heat index gates will open at 5:45.
Friday August 12th, students will have an 8:00 till 10:00 day. We had planned on our Open House being from 11:30 till 5:00 today, but I forgot about district meeting this afternoon for many of our teachers. Open House will be from 10:00 till 11:30. When we dismiss students parents may then enter for the Open House. Sorry for any confusion.
